Processing of Documents is the conversion of document data, document grouping, data matching and production of documents.

Storage of documents is the archiving of documents in a searchable, indexed document storage system. This allows retrival of document copies in case of query.

Distribution of documents is the distribution of documents to their destinations. This includes printing for postage, fax, email and other electronic formats such as EDI. Printing may include OMR (Optical Mark Recognition - used by envelope filling machines) and postage encoding such as CBC (used by Royal Mail etc for routing). Emailed documents are typically sent as PDF or similar attachments. They may also be a plain email with a link to the document(s).
